- Highly energy-efficient inverter technology
- Compact design suited for high-rise buildings
VRF Outdoor Unit Installation
The installation of a VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) outdoor unit is a critical component of any HVAC project, especially in commercial buildings, hospitals, hotels, and large residential complexes. A well-executed outdoor installation ensures optimal system performance, energy efficiency, and long-term reliability.
In India, where climate conditions and space constraints can vary significantly, adhering to best practices during VRF outdoor unit installation is essential.
Site Selection & Preparation
Proper site selection is crucial. The outdoor unit should be placed in a well-ventilated area—like rooftops, terraces, or balconies—on a vibration-resistant foundation. Ensure enough clearance around the unit (typically 300mm on the sides, 1000mm at the front) to allow airflow and maintenance. Avoid dusty, fume-prone, or sun-exposed locations when possible.
Mounting and Fixing
Once the base is constructed, the VRF outdoor unit is lifted with cranes or tackles. Multi-module systems are aligned as per layout specs. Anti-vibration pads are installed underneath to reduce operational noise and vibration. Accurate leveling is key—tilting may cause compressor inefficiency or refrigerant flow issues.
Piping and Refrigerant Connections
Copper refrigerant piping is installed between indoor and outdoor units, with either two or three pipes (heat pump or heat recovery type). Accurate pipe sizing, insulation, and leak-free brazing are critical. Leak testing is performed with nitrogen, then vacuumed before refrigerant charging. Extra refrigerant is added as needed depending on pipe length and elevation.
Electrical and Control Wiring
Power connections are made with proper earthing, circuit breakers, and safety compliance. Shielded cables are used for control signals between indoor and outdoor units. Wiring must strictly follow manufacturer schematics for effective communication and error-free functioning.
Commissioning and Testing
The final step involves system testing: checking refrigerant pressure, voltages, currents, signal integrity, and full operational behavior. These parameters are reviewed through either the VRF control panel or integrated Building Management System (BMS).
A properly installed VRF outdoor unit ensures long-term system reliability, energy efficiency, and compliance with warranty terms.
